SanDisk Ultra 120 GB review

SanDisk Ultra 120 GB review

SanDisk Ultra 120 GB Solid State Drive SDSSDH-120G-G25

I've had this drive for a few months now and it's been perfect! I simply wanted a nice upgrade to my system and was looking for something in the $1/GB range. I got this for $130 so I figured that'd be close enough. Now, I'm normally not a Sandisk fan, but after seeing it in action (computer tech, installed it in customer's machines) and reading some very promising reviews, I splurged and got myself one.

Now, the performance isn't the absolute fastest among SSDs, but it's certainly not the slowest either. Burst speeds will easily hit over 200MB/s with very good random access speeds. I don't have any raw benchmarks on hand, but a quick example; Photoshop CS5 in 7 seconds, LibreOffice in 2 seconds, IE9 instantly. All these after my PC has been running for a few hours but none of these programs had been opened since it booted.

The only issues I've had thus far is the system sometimes hanging during shutdown. Never a full lockup, usually will shut down eventually, could even be something else causing the issue. But this aside, I've had no other hiccups with my system, only blazing performance.

In the end, I highly recommend this drive. Now if you do have a good SATA3 controller, you may consider other options. However, if you only have SATA2 or simply need a well priced drive, this is a great purchase. However, if you do get any SSD, RESEARCH!!! There are tons of tips and tricks out there for all your SSDs. Yes, I've run into some very unreliable drives, but I suspect most people do not understand how these drives work.
